Nutrition

Denise met with the nutritionist during treatment. She reviewed Denise’s food intake and integrated other items into her diet for optimal healing. The integrative wellness center is located one floor away from the radiation treatment rooms at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center. The appointments were arranged by the concierge and confirmed the day before treatment.

After treatment, Denise met with Jeannie Varney a certified health and nutrition consultant in McLean Va. Her advice has healed Denise in incredible ways.

Meditation

During radiation treatment, Denise met with the integrative wellness team and relied on her friend Melanie Sponsler a certified yoga instructor. Denise learned guided imagery, breathing techniques and meditation from Lallie at the MPTC. To this day, Denise is able to fall back asleep so easily by using Lallie’s mediation techniques. Melanie also helped Denise create the places in which Denise would mediate in her mind.

These tools helped Denise so much during treatment. Mel told Denise; “Think of each day like an apple. Take one bite out of this big apple every day. Find a relaxing spot at the beach and think about that apple.” So each treatment Denise laid on the radiation treatment table and imagined eating a life size apple at the beach. Denise is forever grateful for Lallie at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center and her close friend Mel for supporting her in her journey.

Fitness

During treatments, I worked out every day. Some days it was tough but I just kept going!

When people heard about my diagnosis they said, “I am sorry.” I said, “Don’t be sorry, just be strong.” My village of family and friends helped me so much!
